Is it hard to find parking in Angers?
No, in our opinion, parking in Angers is pretty easy. Admittedly, street parking spaces in the very heart of the city remain limited during the day, and parking is metered during the day. But the good news is that there are nine underground or covered parking garages scattered throughout the city center, and several free park-and-ride facilities connected to the tram system allow you to leave your car on the outskirts at no cost. So you won't have to look very far to find a solution that's right for your stay.

Parking in Angers: Summary
Careful street parking
Downtown Angers is divided into an orange zone and a green zone, both of which require payment on weekdays. The orange zone is charged from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the green zone is charged from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Outside of these time slots, parking is free again. We generally prefer to avoid street parking for an entire day, since parking spots are in high demand and the hourly rate increases quite rapidly after the first two hours. If you do decide to take public transportation, keep your ticket in plain sight and strictly follow the posted schedule. If you fail to pay or pay an insufficient amount, you may be subject to a flat-rate fine of €27.

Free parking
Angers offers several free options that are much more generous than those available in most major French cities. The La Rochefoucauld parking lot, an open-air facility along the river, offers approximately 1,200 free parking spaces, a 10- to 15-minute walk from downtown. Where to Park When Visiting the Historic District
If you’d like to stroll between Saint-Maurice Cathedral, the Galerie David d’Angers, and the Museum of Fine Arts, we recommend the Fleur d’Eau - Les Halles parking garage as a good starting point; it’s just a few minutes’ walk from Les Halles and the shopping district. The Ralliement Parking Lot is also the closest to the central square and the network of pedestrian streets. The Molière Parking Lot rounds out the options for those who prefer to arrive from the back of City Hall.

The Château d'Angers and its Apocalypse Tapestry are among the city's must-see attractions. The Fleur d'Eau - Les Halles parking garage provides direct access to the Les Halles neighborhood and its covered market.

The Saint-Laud 1 and 2 parking garages are directly connected to the Angers Saint-Laud train station, right in the heart of downtown. We're happy to recommend them to anyone arriving by train who plans to pick up a rental car there.

The Marengo Parking Lot has different rates on weekdays and weekends, so be sure to check this before leaving your car there for several days.

Where can I park for free in Angers?
In our opinion, Angers is quite generous when it comes to free parking, unlike many tourist destinations. Here are the options you need to know about.
- La Rochefoucauld Parking: approximately 1,200 free outdoor parking spaces along the Maine River. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to walk to the center. We recommend it for stays of several days, as the crowds there are more manageable than in the city center.
- Park-and-ride facilities (P+R): five free parking lots, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, connected to the city center by the tram. Ardenne Park-and-Ride (180 spaces), Hauts de St-Aubin Park-and-Ride (250 spaces), Roseraie Park-and-Ride (180 spaces), La Barre Park-and-Ride (200 spaces), and Montaigne Park-and-Ride (90 spaces). All are accessible to people with limited mobility, and some offer bike lockers.

Where should you avoid parking in Angers?
Parking in Angers is generally flexible, but there are a few things you should keep in mind to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
- Orange and green zones without a valid ticket: If you do not have a valid ticket or your payment is insufficient during paid parking hours (9 a.m.–12 p.m. and 2 p.m.–7 p.m. in the orange zone; 9 a.m.–12 p.m. and 2 p.m.–8 p.m. in the green zone), a €27 fine will be imposed.
- Leclerc Parking Lot on Saturdays: Parking is prohibited there from midnight to 5:00 p.m. due to the weekly market. A car parked in the wrong place may be ticketed or towed!
- The Mail Parking Lot and the Molière Parking Lot on Sundays: Both of these parking lots are closed, so it's best to check the hours before heading there.
FAQ - Parking in Angers
Where can you park in Angers without having to walk too far?
For the historic district, both the Fleur d'Eau - Les Halles parking garage and the Ralliement parking garage offer quick access on foot to the pedestrian streets. For the Château d'Angers, the Château parking lot drops you off right at the foot of the ramparts. These three parking lots have accessible parking spaces and elevators, making them easily accessible for families with strollers as well as people with limited mobility.
Are there secure underground parking garages in Angers?
Most of the parking lots in the city center are covered and monitored by video surveillance 24 hours a day: Ralliement, Fleur d'Eau - Les Halles, Château, Molière, Bressigny, du Mail, Saint Laud 1 and 2, and Marengo.
