1. Discover the Château d'Angers and the Tapestry of the Apocalypse
Why visit?
Dominating the city with its imposing stature, the Château d'Angers will impress you with its presence and history. Follow in the footsteps of the Dukes of Anjou and plunge into the Loire's past. From the top of the 17 towers of the surrounding walls, you can also enjoy superb panoramic views of the city!
The château is also home to a remarkable masterpiece, the Tapestry of the Apocalypse. This medieval hanging is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in the world. Spanning more than 100m, its details and shimmering colors transported us into an imaginary, symbolic medieval world. Avoid queuing and buy your ticket for the castle in advance here.

- The site is located in the city center, a 15-minute walk from the train station.
- Allow 1h30 to 2h.
- The castle features numerous staircases, raised floors and slopes. Bring good shoes!

2. Marvel at the Terra Botanica plant park
Why visit?
Are you a fan of nature and sensory discovery? Terra Botanica is for you. It's one of Angers' must-do activities, and one of the most beautiful gardens on the Loire. Venture into the different worlds of this plant park, and you'll be amazed!
The site's dreamlike paths and magical settings will take you on a journey into a lush world where plants from all over the world intermingle. We were amazed by the madness and poetry of the attractions. Virtual reality, a course of giants, a greenhouse with a thousand butterflies and tree walks are all on the program!

3. Visit Saint-Maurice Cathedral
Why visit?
Perched at the top of the beautiful montée Saint-Maurice, Angers Cathedral is well worth a visit. You'll be seduced by its architecture and the treasures it contains.
Typical of the Anjou Gothic style, the building is emblematic of the Anjou architectural style. Look up and admire the stone vaults overhanging the nave. We also marveled at the superb stained-glass windows and Baroque high altar. In the coming years, the main façade will be embellished with 3 huge portals designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. Expect a bold blend of contemporary and historic!

4. Visit the Musée Jean Lurçat et de la Tapisserie Contemporaine
Why visit?
Nestled in a green setting and a former medieval hospital, this museum is a real gem. You'll be overwhelmed by the creativity of the textile art collections on display at this cultural center. The 12th-century building will not leave you indifferent either!
Also emblematic of Anjou's Gothic style, the architecture of the Musée Jean Lurçat is remarkable. We were impressed by the splendor of the vast sick room and adjoining cloister. The former hall now houses a unique tapestry, Le Chant du Monde, one of France's finest contemporary hangings. You'll be dazzled by this masterpiece, which echoes the Apocalypse Tapestry in the Château d'Angers. 5. Explore the 3000m2 of the Musée des Beaux-Arts
Why visit?
An exceptional architectural ensemble, the Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Angers is worth a visit not only for its 15th-century townhouse, but also for its superb collections. We were impressed by this timeless creativity.
Thanks to two routes, history and fine arts, you can discover the past of the city of Angers and the region, as well as superb works of art. Travel from prehistory to the 20th century to understand the city and its evolution through hundreds of archaeological artifacts. The site's other 3 floors reveal over 300 paintings and sculptures, including an exceptional series of 18th-century paintings. We also recommend a visit to the courtyard for its colorful outdoor art installations.

6. Admire the Galerie David d'Angers and its sculptures
Why visit?
Angers is famous for one of its artists, the great 19th-century sculptor David d'Angers. In the heart of the city, you can discover the magnificent gallery that exhibits many of his works.
In this architectural gem, a former 13th-century abbey church, we discovered the plaster casts of monumental sculptures exhibited in Angers and other major French cities. A large skylight in the ceiling lets the light reveal the magnificence of the showroom and the sculptures by David d'Angers. You'll love the beauty of the architecture and the artwork!

7. Visit the Collégiale Saint-Martin
Why visit?
The Saint-Martin collegiate church is a place steeped in history! Dating back to the 9th century, it is the oldest church in Angers and one of the best-preserved Carolingian monuments in France.
It houses archaeological treasures and a remarkable collection of sculptures. We enjoyed walking around this timeless building and admiring its superb architecture. Its rich cultural program is sure to amaze you, too!

8. Stroll through the Jardin des Plantes
Why visit?
Right in the heart of Angers, the Jardin des Plantes is the perfect place to stroll and daydream. Enjoy the peace and quiet of this romantic green setting.
We enjoyed strolling through this large English garden. Follow its winding, hilly paths and you'll come across a small stream that enlivens the space with a beautiful waterfall and rustling pools. The calm and beauty of the park will seduce you. Why not punctuate your city visits with a nature break or lunch on the grass?

9. Walking in the Doutre district
Why visit?
La Doutre is one of Angers' most beautiful districts. This rich part of town stands out for its history and the beauty of the buildings that embellish it. We were able to admire some superb buildings dating back to the Middle Ages!
Near the banks of the Maine river, you'll be able to contemplate ancient houses and mansions that once belonged to the great families of the French nobility. Along the way, you'll come across the imposing Abbaye du Ronceray and Hôtel des Pénitentes. La Doutre is also home to the Musée Jean Lurçat , which is well worth a visit!

- La Doutre is a district of downtown Angers.
- It takes between 1h and 1h30 to visit it.
- Wear good shoes to navigate the streets and the occasional uphill slope.
- There are some great restaurants in the area!
10. Discover Carré Cointreau
Why visit?
Angers is a land of exceptional products, and is particularly renowned for its liqueurs! Le Carré Cointreau will open the doors to the production of its spirits, known the world over for their aroma and quality.
We discovered some of the secrets behind the famous Cointreau, a fine citrus-based spirit used in many cocktails. Immerse yourself in the world of this leading liqueur brand and learn all there is to know about distillation. Why not round off your visit with a flavourful tasting session?

Why visit?
Angers city center is full of treasures! Stroll through the beautiful streets and alleys of the old town. There are many monuments and sculptures worth seeing.
The city is home to superb art-deco buildings like the Maison Bleue, with its extraordinary azure mosaics! Old medieval houses will also catch your eye. We particularly liked the Maison d'Adam with its magnificent half-timbering. Immerse yourself in the Middle Ages with a private tour that takes you back to the 15th century. You can also have fun discovering the city by opting for one of the many escape games available in Angers!

- Angers city center can be steep, and the stone floors of some of the alleyways may require good footwear.

Angers is famous for its wines and vineyards. Immerse yourself in this land of exceptional products and discover its hinterland.
Visit one of the wineries surrounding the town. We enjoyed the deep green of Domaine de la Soucherie's vines and the sweetness of its wines! We loved the Angers hinterland and the lovely villages it shelters! Let yourself be tempted, for example, by Savennières, a village bordered by vineyards, less than 30 minutes from the town. Béhuard will also enchant you. Nestled on an island, this small hamlet embodies the typical charm of the region. Try out a bike tour and spend several days exploring the Angers countryside, with wine tasting to boot!

Nature getaways
In Angers, you can feel like you're both in the city and in the heart of nature! In town, get some fresh air at the Jardin des Plantes or in the magnificent park of the Musée Lurçat. The gardens of the Château d'Angers are also very colorful. Enjoy a stroll through the Jardin du Mail or the Promenade Jean Turc.

How to get to Angers
Angers can be reached by car via the A11 or A85, depending on your point of departure. If you want to explore the region and visit the Loire castles, we recommend that you have a car. The car is still the most comfortable way to get around the valley. Read our tips on the subject here.
Angers is also very well served by train. The station is located in the city center, and there are regular connections between the surrounding towns and the capital. Book your train tickets and check timetables and prices now!

Parking in Angers
You can try parking directly in the streets of the city center. But note that parking is not free and comes at a price. Places are also becoming scarcer.
Choose one of the city's parking lots. 9 underground parking lots criss-cross the city center (Ralliement, Bressigny, Haras, Larrey, Leclerc, Mail, Mitterrand, Molière, République). Visit the official Angers website here for more information. You can also park for free at the La Rochefoucaud parking lot, which has 1,200 free spaces right on the river. It's a 10-minute walk from the center.
