Our review<\/h2>\n\n<p>What makes the Sozo Hotel truly unforgettable is of course the location. This former chapel depended on the <strong>congregation of the Daughters of Wisdom<\/strong> until its desacralization in the early 2000s.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Vallee-loire\/Hotels\/Hotel-Sozo\/i-fVk7t2X\/0\/c0a6e375\/L\/hotel-sozo-nantes-5-L.jpg\" alt=\"view of the chapel  \"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Chapel of Our Lady of the Angels became Sozo Hotel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>This congregation was founded in 1703 and recognized by the Pope in 1853. The Daughters of Wisdom are dedicated to <strong>teaching<\/strong> and<strong> assisting the sick<\/strong>, especially the poor.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The Chapel of Our Lady of the Angels in Nantes, built in <strong>1883<\/strong> in the neo-Gothic style, welcomed more than <strong>300 young girls<\/strong> in boarding school or in parish classes at the end of the 19th century. In 1974, the school closed and the chapel became a<strong>\"house of welcome<\/strong>\" at the service of the diocese.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/1\/19\/Louis-Marie_de_Montfort_with_Marie-Louise_Trichet%2C_in_the_foundation_of_the_Daughter_of_the_Wisdom_congregation.jpg\" alt=\"painting representing the 2 founders of the congregation of the daughters of wisdom\" width=\"320\" height=\"450\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Louis-Marie de Montfort and Marie-Louise Trichet, founders of the Congregation of the Daughters of Wisdom<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Desecrated, it was sold in <strong>2005<\/strong> to a real estate developer well known to the people of Nantes who undertook its renovation before handing over to the Breton group <strong>Beautiful Life<\/strong> in 2009. The latter completes its transformation into a luxury hotel after 3<strong> years of intense work<\/strong> led by the architectural firm PVA.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Vallee-loire\/Hotels\/Hotel-Sozo\/i-mqhzR7m\/0\/e7baa212\/L\/hotel-sozo-nantes-1-L.jpg\" alt=\"view of the 17 meter nave from the lobby\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Colored windows replacing the original stained glass in the nave<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>The proportions testify to the feat of this project with a nave of<strong> 17 meters<\/strong> high, a volume of <strong>700<sup>m2<\/sup><\/strong>. We had to compete with ingenuity to <strong>redesign<\/strong> the enclosed spaces while respecting the building listed in the <strong>B\u00e2timents de France<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you look closely at the old chapel, you will see that the <strong>lobby<\/strong> is actually located in the former basement of the chapel which housed the <strong>sisters' refectory<\/strong>. Surprising, isn't it?<\/p>\n\n<p>And as we really enjoyed our unusual night at the Sozo Hotel, it is included in our list of the <a
